Meaningful Question

Shashi Tharoor asks "Where is Indian Sarkozy?" (via Rohit).

As with everything he writes*, the question is meaningless and of no practical utility. Why stop at Sarkozy. "Where is Indian Reagan?", "Where is Indian Glenn Reynolds?", "Where is Indian Ann Coulter?"

Perhaps a more meaningful (but equally purposeless) question would be, "Why was there no Indian Jefferson" ?

* Descent of Tharoor! What descent! The man has achieved his level of mediocrity on his own, sweep of his luxuriant hair managing to sweep any gravitas away . Dear Ritwik, I am afraid strain of studies is beginning to show. Learn to take it easy.

Umm I still believe it's better called "The descent of Tharoor". The guy has written brilliant stuff previously - people tell me that both of his novels are fabulous.

Secondly, the example of Sarkozy is a little more apt than you give it credit for. France has had a history of socialism and of left-leaning intelligentsia, not unike India. Reagan wouldn't be a fair comparison - even the Democrat governments of the US are more capitalism friendly and grounded in sound economics than any Indian govenments whatsoever, and so a shift to Sarkozy is more natual than a shift to Reagan.

Thirdly, what strain of studies? I hope you're not implying that my take on why it may be desirable for India to have a stable government in Pakistan did not make sense. Aspersions cast on the appropriateness of my observations shall instigate revolt against the dictator. :-P

Your rebellion, if you decide to join my foes against me shall be ruthlessly suppressed. To be specific you will be made to read Tharoor's articles. Even if that doesn't break your courage, Jagadguru treatments awaits. Yes I am a cold hearted monster.
