Horror from another world, Not

Via http://www.ndtv.com/ ,

Tribal woman's hand chopped off in MP,

"The right hand of a 32-year-old woman, Kamlabai has been chopped off in Madhya Pradesh. The woman, who is a tribal, was attacked last night in Ningri village in Raisen district."

There is more,

Rape case: Tribal woman awaits justice

"Police in Madhya Pradesh have not yet identified the attackers who chopped the hand of a woman in Raisen district. Kamalabai was attacked by some villagers when she rejected pressure to take back a complaint of rape. "

and even more contemptible

MP rape victim faces police apathy

"Police in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district have questioned the version given by a rape victim and even her character. The victim, Kamla Bai – an adivasi woman – was raped by some upper caste men three years ago.Under pressure, the tribal woman retracted the complaint at that time, but on December 2 this year, she was raped again."

I have been following this incidence since quite a few days filled with a combination of sadness and impotent rage, NDTV is doing a commendable job of keeping track of this story.
Inexplicably none of the MSM have taken this in a big way, this is a bigger tragedy than the incident itself, is this because of news cycles ?

This offcourse tells that village is not as idyllic as made out to be, Atanu had posted it here, however judging by tenor of the post he was in favour of more outside force to change the nature of such opressionm, I will tend to disagree. While outside persuasion is required even essential to prevent any occurence of this kind, any change in situation for better has to be accompanied by the reform at the ground level.

It is easy to say that let Delhi be the purveyor of matter of governance, but I think it is downright impossible to ensure justice at long distance.
