Intervention

I never thought there would come a day where I will be linking to Tavleen Singh, but today is the day. Good reads.

A dark, distorted Hinduism and Our Sunita complex

Excellent links, Gauravji. Thanks.

This is probably the first time an English mainstream daily has written about the pathetic state of Indology and Hinduism studies.

About 10 years ago, when Jeffrey Kripal published that amazingly putrid book claiming Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa as a homosexual (using psychoanalysis!), The Times of India article was headlined:
"Ramakrishna's Impulses Spark Row"

Intheshadowsji :),
As someone who sort of went through it, i can tell you the experience sucks big time...you don't want to be seen as defensive but at the same time feel terrible about it...

so you end up politely telling the guy (prof.) that that's not the way the faith is practiced...to which you'll be given a weird look and told, "ah, that's what the typical brainwashed mind says" or be attacked with some 10,000 references, all of which will be circular in nature :)

my only motivation in attending those classes was to hold a mini parallel class for genuine students before the actual class began...

Yeah, I can understand. Just reading the cartoon made me feel sick and sad.. to see Hinduism misinterpreted this way. Worse, if we object to such gross lies, we become communal and fundamentalists !!

Sharanji,

We are still under the yoke of self loathing and self abnegation of Indian intellectuals.

Shadows,

It is about power....
