MK cites 'drunkard' Ram, Advani spits venom
Of course, the only way statements of Shri Advani can be construed as venom is by defining venom as to be water.
But then CNN-IBN is a honourable channel.
PS: Hindus deserve this
PPS: I am getting pissed off now.
PPPS: Again I fail to understand, how can TamizhNadu elect this bastard ? Why ?

In TN, saivites do not accept sri rama as a god. They see him as an aryan hero. They do not abuse him.
Dravidian hagiologists see him as a symbol of aryan oppression.Karunanidhi always identifies himself with ravana.
If you remember,in rc's blog,i had commented about the skin colour of north/south indians. You had replied to me.
Many dravidian leaders have this complex about language/skin colour.
Karu's comments will not evoke strong reactions in TN.The common man does not share this hatred.
I dont have to tell YOU about the common man, commonness, historical memories of the elite/common etc.
This is where karnataka and TN have different perceptions of indian nationalism.
The 'masses' worship mariamman(a form of kali) and murugan(identified with skanda, son of Lord Shiva).
Sri Rama does not evoke popular support in TN.Of course he is not abused either.
The politicians in CPM,CPI,congress must be embarassed because all the skeletons in the dravidian(which means their own)cupboard are being laid bare.
At the sametime, have some sympathy for the predicament of the dravidian elites who have always been suspicious of monolithic hinduism.
There is no doubt whatsoever that tamils are hindus.(in their philosophy, culture, caste system).
Karu is a cheap bastard and one of a kind. But he is a moderate tamil nationalist.Ramayana is one of his blindspots. He cannot understand the ideal of an austere, noble, powerful, compassionate kshatriya.TN is in the deep south of india.Kshatriyas are almost an unknown commodity.
Karu has no morals or ethics in his personal life. All the more reason to hate Sri Rama.
The Dravidian tradition has almost everything, except an intellectual tradition. It values life-experiences which teaches wisdom. But a real intellectual tradition is missing.(I sometimes feel that is why they are not able to compete in JEE,IAS,etc)while they dominate in state board exams. They do pretty well in engineering/software.But in anything that requires an intellectual tradition (Godel's Theorem or Quantum Mechanics)they are inadequately represented.
The ADMK was founded by MGR( a menon from kerala) and is now headed by Jayalalitha(a Tamil-kannada iyengar).I might sound racist,i cant help it.
From the mid 1970's the ADMK has approximately played the role of a modern vibhishana.
Karu was dismissed twice.(in 1975 by Mrs.Gandhi,in 1989 by Rajiv). The Admk was in alliance with congress for most of the period from 1975 to 1996.The support from ADMK was almost always unconditional.ADMK alsp supported the first BJP govt in 1998.
The ADMK has never instigated the mandal agitatiions, though it has paid lip service to it.The Indian Express once described ADMK as a dravidian party which has nothing dravidian about it.
Yet within TN,ADMK after trying to bring economics based reservation backtracked and raised reservation to the present 70%.After all, reservation in TN is directed against one community.
What is the ADMK's base.First and foremost it was the 'common man'.This is always dicey even in the best of times. It was able to stop dmk by pandering to regional sentiments(the southern districts of the pandyas) and also the non-vellala communities(thevars, gounders)who were stifled by the vellala elite.
But these stalling tactics can only go so far.Ultimately an outsider is not tolerated beyond a point. In 2004,the congress,DMK,PMK,communists came together so that the tamil voice is heard loud and clear at the centre.
Even in 1999,the DMK made a tactical shift to align with BJP(which represented the rising middle class). The DMK is a moderate tamil party now, which is fully committed to india. Its blind spots are Vedanta(any intellectual tradition),Ramayana, reservation.
The DMK originally had a vellala(and to some extent telugu) leadership.Even now karu is scared of PMK,congress which are made of politically conscious common people. He knows what to expect when they come to power.
TN is critically dependant on cauvery and india for her future prosperity.
Someone has to iron out the infirmities in their thinking.
> PS: Hindus deserve this
That's almost what this article says too. Seen this article before? I liked it.
> PPPS: Again I fail to understand, how can TamizhNadu elect this bastard ? Why ?
Maybe this :)
My top three gems from this news article:
1) Just as all guests at a wedding do not feast at the same time, the distribution of television sets could not be done in one go.
2) This would ensure that no home was left without a television set. "Even if one crore people need to be given television sets, we will give them," he said.
3) On the free land scheme, he said that though the promise was to give two acres, he was certain that even if the land was less than two acres by "a few inches," people would not object.
Hey Ram!
Gaurav, as regards getting pissed, let me digress first by quoting from a friend's email describing stages of spiritual development :
In the first stage, the person doesn’t care which way the world goes. He sits indifferently without any concern, thinking “world is always like this, let it go on like that”.
After some time he realises that it is his duty and responsibility to ensure good in the god’s world. Thus inspired by the motive to do good to this world of god, he acts.
But sooner or later he realises that it is god’s world and he can very well take care of it. It is foolish to think that he can take care of it in His place. He thus realises that it is rather an opportunity given by god to mould himself.
The above excerpt might not seem to apply to your conception of God, but an appropriate modification of it should certainly apply. People who don't care about Hinduism aren't pissed whatever happens or seems to happen to Hinduism. People whose faith in some Truth has gone beyond a threshold also seem to care less about these things. It is the in-between guys like you and me who suffer. So it will be in our interest to take up one of these sides - either an almost non-Hindu or go much deeper into Hinduism.
kupa manduka,
You are not a frog lost in a well.
An interesting discussion on a related topic here: http://krishashok.wordpress.com/2007/09/18/ramar-said-who/#comments
xyz,
Thanks for the comment, again problem is not whether Bhagwan Rama is worshiped (although rc has a diff take on this). But that kind of Dravida politics that is practiced in Tamizhnadu is highly divisive and corrodes the strength of India.
What I have found is the Dravida polemics is its obsession with Dravida and Aryans fail to take cognizance of the fact that India is not a monolithic culture. There are diverse traditions and identities and it takes a lot of accommodation and respect, which frankly speaking the politicians in Tamizhnadu just don't get it.
Sharanji,
Unfortunately you are right,
Frogji
I disagree on that but let's postpone it to some other date.
Rt Hon. VSSS
Well i think it was rather shallow, I think that RC has done the most exhaustive work on it
