Nothing Hindu About It

Some time back Amrit Lalji, a British citizen of Indian origin was sacked from Heathrow airport for wearing nose studs, as it violated policy which prohibited piercings, which, according to policy could be cause for bacterial infection.

This decision caused a huge uproar, and as a result the decision has been reversed, on the grounds that the policy didn't apply in her case. Now to me it seems that an error in judgment at lower level was corrected at higher level.

However I find the arguement that nose stud is significant for Hindu unpersuasive.True it is traditional for Indian women to wear nose stud but there is nothing of sacred import to it. It is just a piece of traditional jewelery.

Somehow I am not comfortable when people take support of religion for every trifles and even for issues which have nothing to with religion. It is this indiscriminate use of religion and religious symbols for power play which breed dogma and morbidity.Nothing good can come out of this.
