Mahabharat
It is a pity that Bhajan became extinct in 80's. I am sorry, what I meant was it is a pity Bhajans didn't die in 80's. Instead they assumed undead existence as paradies of Bollywood music (the main culprit, to no one's surprise, T-Series), but fortunately some Bhajans still managed to be written which could move you.
It is a pity that Qawwali has become almost extinct even as Gazhal thrives. In a way it is understandable, compared to Qawwali, Gazhal is safer because of its melody. On the other hand, there are high chances of botching up a Qawali. However if done right Qawali is eclectic, in fact, and I assure you, it will definitely give you goosebumps.
Now that we are done with obligatory preface, to my only readers I present.
Here is an admission. Frogji's comments on my earlier post have kind of perplexed me. He asked why language in bollywood cinema so infused with Urdu. This was news to me. Assuming he is talking about contemporary bollywood cinema, its language is that its audience is most comfortable with, i.e. Hindi/Hindustani. Urdu ceased to be a language of cinema long ago, and since use of Sanskritized Hindi was never widespread it is hardly an option.
Then it struck me that the reason why our observations are so divergent has to do with our experience. Frogji not hailing from Hindi heartland is obviously not familiar with Hindi the way it is spoken there. Therefore it makes sense to make explicit my reference point, which is the video embedded below. This is what I will consider Urdu infused language.
A note here, this too is relative. For my father's generation which actually could read and write Urdu this video won't be very difficult to understand.
Amarji asks how can Hindu Fascists can get hold over Hindi film industry. This is an important question. As it happens I have a plan
1. People pimp my blog like TOI pimps Sherlyn Chopra. increasing page views and ranking.
2. With increased visibility my blog-fu becomes more awesome.
3. I take down sec-lib establishment.

PS. In kingdom of One ...
1. Mice will finally bell the cat .
2. Govt. will act against the mob.
3. Goat lover will finally get his damn doc.
Finally it is here! Trailer below.
PS. It better be good. I hope it kicks Bourne Series and Sin City ass.
Update: Why Wahlberg though, he is eye candy. I think it would have been more appropriate to have some brooding type, may be this guy.
Here is the entire video. My thoughts later.
Update: Here are my thoughts. I am underwhelmed by the speech as such. The frequent interruptions for applause were too annoying, and frankly smelled of desperation. Also may be it is just me but I didn't find Sarah Palin cute, but unlike Respect Ma'am I didn't find her jarring either. What I got from watching her was that a) She is a determined woman, and her opponents if they underestimate her it will be at their own peril (I could almost detect steel in her poise) and b) She relishes attacking, and she is good, not Guiliani good (what can I say, I love the man), but good in her own way. She eviscerated Obama, and I think he must be licking his wounds. I didn't find anything troubling with her aggression. In a way, it was a perfect response to the way her family was dragged in the mud by zealous followers of Obama.
I wanted to make a general point about speeches. There is a perception that the only purpose of speech is to list policy proposals. That, at least to me, is a horrifying idea. Speeches are either meant to rouse the foot soldiers of your campaign by great oratory, or to familiarize general audience with your general philosophy for governance. In this few policy proposals can be included to illustrate how the particular governing philosophy is better that that of opponents but this should not be turned to a dreary seminar on health policy (which, as goat lover can vouch, are no good). Greeks, the original masters of democracy, realized this. Which is why they considered rhetorics as important as dialectics.
Dedicated to the Obama fanboy (No not aegophile, ask Respected Ma'am)
Update: What is messiah without a religion.
From Kill Bill 2. Personally speaking I always preferred the second part to the first one. While first one had the stylized action sequences suitably aided by anachronistic narration (a standard Tarantino device),the second one was preferable because first the story was much more substantial and second the way change of pace in narration was handled.
Sadly for me, Hostel turned me off to a degree that I can not muster the courage to watch Grindhouse.
Sex and the city (the movie) will soon be out. To survive that kind of manure, here is some help (Definitely NSFW)
