Apologies for the redundancy, but I forgot to blog about this earlier. Really the speech by Manmohan Singh is one of the most embarrassing spectacle of his pathetic administration.

To fulfill his ambitions, he has made at least three attempts to topple our government. But on each occasion his astrologers have misled him. This pattern, I am sure, will be repeated today. At his ripe old age, I do not expect Shri Advani to change his thinking. But for his sake and India’s sake, I urge him at least to change his astrologers so that he gets more accurate predictions of things to come.

As for Shri Advani’s various charges, I do not wish to waste the time of the House in rebutting them. All I can say is that before leveling charges of incompetence on others, Shri Advani should do some introspection. Can our nation forgive a Home Minister who slept when the terrorists were knocking at the doors of our Parliament? Can our nation forgive a person who single handedly provided the inspiration for the destruction of the Babri Masjid with all the terrible consequences that followed? To atone for his sins, he suddenly decided to visit Pakistan and there he discovered new virtues in Mr. Jinnah. Alas, his own party and his mentors in the RSS disowned him on this issue.

As I have this whole image of Manmohan Singh as a decent man is just a deception by his sycophants in English media. He is a petty babu, a first rate ass kisser with no class.

Anyway I will try to write something on the confidence vote.

Update:  Sorry for being flippant, it's just there is a sense of helplessness, past the stage when I could get worked up. Seriously nothing is going to happen. Another day, another blast, while we remain proudly dhimmi secular.

Anyway for what is worth, a prayer for everyone those are alive and those who aren't.

Reading E-Books

1. I discovered to my chagrin is very exhausting for me. This is surprising, as I finished Heinlein on my laptop, back in 2006.

2. I was reading collection of short stories by Arthur C Clarke. The collection caught me by suprise because of its dark and mostly apocalyptic tones. My repertoire of Clarke is pretty limited (just 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequels), but I thought he was the more optimistic of big three. Hell he scared me with his poeish touch (though I admit I am easily scared owing to over active imagination, my nerves are still wrought due to disturbed sleep).

3. It is remarkable how neither Asimov nor Clarke foresaw demise of Communism. Though I like science fiction, I have to reluctantly admit that this is a serious flaw of its most famous works. Of course people can argue that it is unfair criticism against sci-fi, but in my opinion it is not, because prediction of evolution of human society and its institutions plays a predominant part in the sci-fi genre. Heinlein ofcourse played the rugged individualist to the hilt, but even he never came close to predicting the future of communism.

4. Preceding observation brings me to an important conclusion. That sci-fi failed to foresee demise of communism was no accident. Indeed it is difficult to realize this now but the end of second world war saw the emergence of consensus in intellectual circles of two things one that conservatism was dead, killed by electoral dominance of new deal coalition on one hand, and the defeat of national identity in the hands of internationalism, result of second world war. Other was permanent ascendancy of liberalism (or new liberalism) which was to be the beacon of hope for future generations. This consensus is best exemplified by following quote.

Therefore as much as I loathe fanboyish fawning that one witnesses in libertarian circles, the acknowledgment must be given where it is due.

End of delusion

I hate to ding Rohit, but this post must be corrected.

First, Rohit is sadly mistaken (as is the fallen one) when he says that fate of left is over to Indian voter, for the truth is there is no electoral constituency which can significantly decide the election all over India. In this case what happens to left will be decided by the highly local political climate of West Bengal and Kerala. Reports suggests that in case of election left might not maintain its present strength, however while that will be welcome, we should not make the mistake of attributing it to some "national mood". I wish the reality was different but please leave such fantasy to journalists and such, whose daily bread depends on grand narratives.

Second and the most grievous mistake is when Rohit hopes that absence of left will see a return of economic reform to the national agenda. This is more grievous because it assumes that it is left which has stalled the economic reform. To be sure, left did stall significant portions of the agenda, but the complete truth is that economic reform (and much more) were given a not so quiet burial by our lady of 10 Janpath Road, who was convinced by her chamchas and clueless journalists (not necessarily exclusive terms) that 2004 verdict was against reforms, and the only way for Congress to attain commanding heights of the days of her mother-in-law was by pushing India back into despairing depths of socialized economy. Our Prime Minister and Finance Minister, both media darlings to the extent that mere mention of their name can cause embarassing instances of ejaculation in editor's offices across India, had basic economic knowledge to correct this misconception of our Empress, but Manmohan Singh who is basically a self promoting babu, and P C Chidambram who is Lord snooty incarnate didn't do so, instead choosing to enjoy privileges of their offices, while throwing away the hard earned money of Indians. While this shameful act was going on, our secular-liberal media decided to look other way, as it had other concern in its mind, foremost being defending its stranglehold on political institutions and public discourse.
This four year honeymoon granted to this disgraceful government, is the extent to which the entrenched section can go to preserve itself.

At least now  recognize this charade, and call the opportunism of Manmohan Singh for what it is.

So what I want to say is lets not delude ourself.

A rambling post

Not that I think anyone missed me but in case I was missed, I am back (or to be more accurate will try to post).Any way the reasons for my absence were

1. Trying to study. Alas, as I found to my chagrin, I have lost any capacity to concentrate and study, which means I am pretty much a dead end here. Plus I really hate sentence correction. I hate English.

2. A matter which some of you might be aware of.

3. I was bored and dismayed with my continuing insignificance. Why do you people hate me so much.

Now that I am back, let me direct you to liberal fascism blog authored by Jonah Goldberg and concerned with subject matter of his bestselling book. Although I am not sure I agree with the premise (though I confess I am not that much knowledgeable about American history or politics), the discussions on the blog are highly thought provoking, the most recent example being discussion on Locke, Burke and Rousseau.

Since some time I have wondered about the relation between classical liberalism and libertarianism (both of them being very broad terms). The discussion on Locke and Burke makes me think that libertarianism with its strong individualistic streak is more a descendant of Locke (and possibly Hume) than Burke or Smith.
H.E. and "induhvidiualists" like him of course belong to the category of narcissist urbanites with convent education and maturity level stuck at adolescence.

After that please condemn jingoists at DP for not condemning failure of some brown organization to include various terrorist groups in its warm South Asian embrace. I am sure the Jihadis must be traumatized by this discrimination.

While we are talking about DP, pray what exactly is rude in asking about someone's mother or whatever. Is it Indian's problem that these firangees are so messed up. Seriously these self-loathing types are really irksome.

Talking of irksome, it really galls me to see Prasannaji, otherwise exceedingly smart individual, make this common error of mistaking secularism as a virtue in itself. As I have mentioned it earlier, I have no patience with "Secularism is virtue" creed. In fact, I will argue, in manner of Jonah Goldberg (but IMO correctly in Indian context), that this charade of Indian secularism is more correctly understood as secular fascism. I am toying with this idea for a long time. If any of the fellow Hindu fascist want to expand upon this premise, he (or she, as we have recruited a female in our dreaded Hindutva Vadi brigade) is most welcome.

If this is not enough, Prasannaji disappoint me further by becoming a fan of that estimable idiot Richard Dawkins. Why, Prasaannaji, why ! What's wrong with you !

Moving on to other topics, Rohit says, "In my mind, there can only be one justification for abortion ( excluding medical necessity and rape): Women’s primacy over her own body."

Err, what about the baby. To repeat what I said in earlier post, it is not clear (at least to me) when do we consider that the fetus is alive and hence possesses rights. It is a fuzzy decision, so what ? Life is inherently fuzzy. Engineers know this.

Finally, google reader has a nifty widget whereby I can display my shared items. I hope you must have noticed. My question is there a way by which I can simultaneously share an item and blog about it. Blogger does have a "blog this" feature my problem is that is not lightweight like that of reader.
