Now, compared to your typically ethically challenged journalist/public intellectual, I have a rather favourable opinion of  Sadanand Dhume, which is why I am sort of nonplussed with where exactly he is going when on eve of 26/11 he reminds  us that many in Pakistan (presumably liberals) were appalled by the attacks.

Excuse me for breaking the rules of decorum, but why am I supposed to give a flying f**k about how appalled the bed-wetting class in LOP is about all  this "unpleasant situation".

For the simple fact is you can take all the dread, consternation, horror, revulsion, indignation and whatever else Pakistani liberals feel about 26/11 and still fall ten rupees short of ten rupees vada pav.

To paraphrase Jennifer Lopez, for liberals, whether of LOP or of India, feelings don't cost a thing. For them all the hand wringing and tch-tching is about signalling kindness in their heart and virtue in their soul to the world in general and their peer in particular.

Pakistani liberals don't care about 26/11 or about terrorism against India.

You don't believe me, do you! Then please tell me, where are morchas by Pakistani liberals demanding an end to state sponsorship of terrorism against India, or demanding punishment against masterminds of the terror attacks. Forget morchas, where are the articles in their liberal respectable publications, newspapers or magazines, offline or online denouncing terrorism against India, unequivocally asking for an end in involvement by Pakistani state.

I will tell you, you wont find any such examples, because there aren't any! And that is not because Pakistani liberals are scared. Not so !  To accuse them of cowardice is to do disservice to them. Pakistani liberals have been vocal critics of Mullahs and Military (ofcourse it helps that they possess no threat to either of them).

The only reasons that I can surmise behind their reluctance is either they don't care, or they consider terrorism a justified response to Indian "occupation" of Kashmir, or an appeasement of Jihadi monster.

Either way, by their silent acquiescence, they have encouraged religious war against Kaffirs by a psychopathic Pakistani state.

If you want to remember 26/11 please remember for what it was just one instance in ongoing jihad against Hindus by a Pakistan which still resents the fact that for all their professions of Islamic piety and purity they are in essence rape child of Islamicized central asian hordes, and that even after thousand years of persecution Hindus refuse to submit to the true faith.

Yeah I know you are not interested in finding out how I met your mother. In fact if I can be brutally frank after two seasons best described as lameass nobody really is, except for the suits, but they also killed Arrested Development, so there is that. Anyhow, this is not about how I met your mother, but a very brief comment on political strategy.


To be specific it's about the unpleasant situation that we find ourselves in Afghanistan. Let's start at the beginning in 2001 our country was attacked by people commonly described as fringe adherents to what is otherwise a religion of peace (and also of 72 virgins, with their hymen in mint condition, and not reconstructed by hymenoplasty). Understandably we decided to kick the bad guy’s ass, the bad guy being Taliban, less understandably we decided to spread some sweet democracy in the region.


Now this has proved to be difficult than we thought mostly because even as we were busy killing Taliban (and doing some collateral damage on the side) we were enthusiastically blowing dollars on Taliban’s BFF (i.e. Land of Pure) for a little striptease also known in strategic terms as frontline ally in terrorism. Now kids, trust me when I say Pakistan is the best striptease in town, it has got all the tricks under its sleeves to make sure that dollars keep on coming from its patrons. The matter of fact is, I could tell you all about it, but a brief comment simply won’t do any justice to it, so suffice it to understand it has been able to hold our “attention” for more than eight years. Now however we are having ache in our unmentionables, and therefore we are in a tearing hurry to withdraw. 


However the fact that we haven't been able to achieve anything we set out to in the first place is kind of embarrassing. We desperately need a face saving formula, luckily for Geo-politics provides us with exactly that.

In politics there are two ways to succeed. One to actually succeed (or as Whoopi Goldberg would describe it “succeed succeed”), the other is to redefine success to what was previously failure. This is what we are precisely going to do. Quite unexpectedly we have discovered that Taliban are not all bad, in fact there are quite a few gray areas lying between what we thought (and argued) were black and white. So there is good Taliban and when I say good I mean the faction which we expect will make totally insincere promises about negotiation and will observe a totally opportunistic ceasefire till the time we pack our bags and finish the job when public attention is towards a more pressing issue for example Miley Cyrus's thongs. 


And thus Team America will have royally screwed Afghanistan yet again.

Koregaon Blasts

It's kind of  late to comment upon Koregaon blast which is old news as far as blogging cycle is concerned, but for what it's worth, here is what I think about it.

The attack appears to be hurriedly planned. There are many other locations in Pune where the damage inflicted would have been much higher (in fact we were in one such place when bakery was bombed). The reason terrorists selected bakery for attack could be either of following two.

One, their initial target was different (for example Osho Ashram, very near to bakery) but they had to change the target at the last moment due to some reason, most probably security.

Second reason however is more interesting, which is perpetrators were in hurry because they had some urgent strategic goal. The only strategic goal I can think of, is thwarting the proposed talks behind India and Pakistan. This is kind of intriguing as I have always considered talks to kabuki theater at best, however the fact that the powers that be in land of pure were desperate to thwart the talks suggests the impossibly viz. these talks might result in some result, to be precise, result not favorable to Pakistan.

And this bring to our final conclusion, which is it is possible Obama administration is working behind the scenes to force Pakistan to make concession to India.

B Raman: Secular Apologist For Islam

I say, why B Raman had to spoil the whole thing! Well, if you must know, TOI came with a brainwave for peace in our lifetime, alliteratively titled “Aman Ki Asha”.  They hope to realize this by, wait for it, people to people contact, which have been tried for, let’s see, some gazillion times. It is difficult to see why this reenactment of cosmopolitan self preening will be different from previous ones unless the goal of this charade is to sell the copies.

It is then B Raman enters and in few paragraphs deftly demolishes the argument, or rather thought, behind the whole charade viz. it is just mutual misunderstanding which is the root cause behind the tension. He states, correctly, that Pakistan is one of the most mistrusted nations as far as terrorism is concerned.

This is the perfect point from which B Raman could have entered and explained the pathology of Pakistan, at this point however he is gripped by a fear that he will cross Laxman Rekha of secularism. As a result he does what all secularists do when they find themselves in this situation, start issuing apology for Islam, such as the problem with Pakistan is its distorted interpretation of Islam not found anywhere else in Ummah.

Really! This is quite surprising because I can think of quite a few countries (read all the countries) which have this “distorted interpretation” of Islam.

In the same manner, as far as cruelty and barbarity go, Pakistan is the norm rather than the exception in the universal Islamic brotherhood. Also, while Pakistan may headquarters of jihadi terrorism, its outlets are everywhere in Ummah through franchise, so even in that Pakistan is hardly the exception that Raman makes it out to be.

But most ridiculous is the presumption by kaffir such as B Raman that they can instruct LOP (Land of Pure) on the soundness of their doctrine. This is as absurd as me suggesting Tamizhans not to sneakily put DAMNED black peppers in the vadai.

There is a relatively straightforward simple explanation for this phenomenon. So imprisoned are secularists to the notion the all religions are equal (whether equally good or equally bad), they simply ignore any evidence to the contrary. This is one more indicator how secularism has morphed from an ideology to article of faith, a pernicious one at that.

PS. It is unlikely, but one might give it a benign twist. Secularists realize that Islam is the problem, but realize that admitting it publicly will make matters worse. Hence the noble lie of distorted Islam. Problem with this is their actions do not suggest that they realize the problem.

PPS. B Raman is right in a way. As far as India is concerned Pakistan is different from Ummah, but that is not a matter of doctrine but rather that of origin. Existence of a kaffir (even if dhimmi) India is a testimony of, first failure of Pakistan to obliterate shirk  from Indian subcontinent and second thriving while even as Pakistan self destructs thus invalidating the premise of superiority of  the deen.

to find that Maoists don't take bourgeoisie democracy seriously , instead using it as a stepping stone for people's democracy. I mean who could have thunk that Maoists will do such a thing, after all they gave their word.

You know what is not shocking, well the studied silence of the cocktail swishing circuit which not so long was agog with dawn of democracy  and secularism in the erstwhile Hindu Kingdom. Devil's alternative

I don't watch English news channels (for reasons of sanity), so this might be redundant, however my impression is that BJP and Shri Advani are taking a beating on Kandhar issue. Now the response of NDA government during and after Kandhar crisis are far from commendable. To be specific its response was tardy while hijacking was folding out and it did not learn the lessons from hijack to put in place correct policies to deal with similar situations in future.

One can debate on this, though this may raise interesting case of pot calling kettle black, what with Charar-e-Sharif and Rubaiya Sayeed, however the debate is on what one can call Machogiri, our lady of 10 Janpath, her spawns and her poodles are mocking Shri Advani for releasing terrorists. To shut them up BJP should ask a simple question, "Had it been Congress at that time in government would it have allowed innocent passengers to be killed by the terrorists ?".

Now there are answers to this, personally I favor no release policy. However, it's not my near and dear ones who are held hostage. Heavens forbid if such a situation were to arise, I have no idea what I will do. This is a human response. Therefore it is clear that regardless of the lofty principles, a democratic government will never have easy answer to the question this is known as Devil's alternative.

Anyway I don't particularly care for what Obama does, though I am always irked by his liberal boilerplate rhetoric, soaring or not. His alleged intention to mediate in J&K is a different matter altogether. I foresee testing times for US-India relationship.

Having said that such awful benediction ("when brown can stick around | when yellow will be mellow") is not an harbinger of hope. Despair ye Americans !

It's always been war

The latest in Varnam leaves me puzzled. Granted there is always a journalist's license to add urgency to the article, but the article while remaining true in what it states is defeated in its purpose by the incorrect title*.

Truth is Republic of India has always been at war since the independence. Further this is a continuation of centuries of a co-existence between Hinduism and Islam which at best can be called uneasy and acrimonious.

Also, terrorism is not the war but just the latest strategy to be employed in this war, one which more than physical damage seeks the mental disintegration of kaffir, terrorism is to geopolitics what sledging is to cricket.

We must defeat terrorism. But don't forget this is just a move, and not the end game. The most important purpose of our security policy should be long term which is to secure integrity and sovereignty of this Republic.

Alternatively we can embrace Islam and live in peace. Or at least until the question of Hajrat Ali throws the Caliphate into century long internecine battle.

Now that you are thoroughly repulsed by the idea, please accept my apologies. However I too have been repulsed, and to my great chagrin have noticed that none of you (and by you I mean means thousands of my loyal minions) seem to share the revulsion. To just clue you in. What happened in Mumbai was not, I repeat  ,in all caps, NOT, 911 .

Now when journalists and idiots (but I repeat myself), mindlessly spout this utter garbage believing it to be some clever insight, what they mean is that what happened on those few days was such a momentous event that it will alter the future course of history. This is certainly true as far as 911 and US is concerned. While the attack was spectacular and audacious (apology for the poor choice of words),  911 marked the first time since WW II , any foreign force was able to attack US, and since 1812 , when she was attacked on the main land. To call it shock would be understatement, it was so unimaginable to Americans that this marked the end of one era (End Of History) however short, and beginning of other (Global War On Terror).

This clearly is not the case here, this is hardly the first attack that has been carried out in Indian soil, or even the first by Islamists. Since it is not the first should be hardly shocking to Indians and in fact it is not. The high decibel noise emanating from screeching journalists (Enough is enough) and Generation X types (Politicians bad, slogans good ) notwithstanding, we are perfectly inured to any outrage. We are incapable of 'feeling' any shame, or pain, or anger, or humiliation.

People of dead civilization feel nothing.

PS. Ravikiran has drawn a distinction between this and prior attacks in that it exposes Indian military weakness. I am afraid I don't understand this. The attack exposes many things. Intelligence failure, lack of co-ordination, absence of mechanism and organization for effective and immediate counter terror. What it has to do with the military I don't know. I don't claim to be an expert in matters of military, but from what I have read urban guerrilla warfare is not core military responsibility per se.

Further we have examples of this kind of attacks. Golden temple comes foremost to the mind. I am sure examples close enough could be found with Naxals as well as North Eastern terrorism.

B. Raman rings the early warning bells . Now while people may dismiss this as too early, I find this very plausible. Based on campaign rhetoric of HopeNChange Obama must make a show of sharp departure from W administration. This means he has to make good on his promise of making Pakistan his priority. Problem in this case though is that America has limited leverage with 'our brothers across the border'. Finding himself without anything meaningful plan, Obama will do what he is wont to do, deceive by frenetic actions thus giving illusion of progress even if there is none.  In this case it will mean  return of good old days when American policy towards India and Pakistan  was zero sum game.

As the saying goes, "May you live in exciting times".

Where I go paranoid (and incoherent)

Having termed Rohit's posts confused earlier , let me write one myself. I have refrained from commenting on the Malegaon kerfuffle mostly because I was too embarrassed to reveal what I think. Anyway here it is.

If it is true that Sadhvi , Ramesh Upadhyay, and Sameer Kulkarni indeed conspired in the case, they are terrorist and deserve nothing less than capital punishment.
Further if it turns out that any 'Hindutva' organization whether affiliated with Sangh Parivar, or independently has provided support for the bombing it is as guilty of terrorism as SIMI and should be treated as such.
Wait a minute ! What's with this, "if it is true" part, you ask. Here comes the paranoia. I find the revelation of  the "alleged" involvement too convenient and orcharasted considering how UPA is being hammered, justly I may add,  for the gross neglect of terrorism issue.

Of course UPA is hardly the only player which is threatened by public ire over Islamic terrorism. There is a deeper, and far more grievous threat to our sec-lib establishment which is alarmed by the public disenchantment with siren songs of a secular narrative which sustains itself on historical amnesia as well as false equivalence between Dharmic and Abrahamic traditions.

Basically what I am saying is, I am skeptical of investigating agencies. "But, then aren't you saying the same the thing as the apologists who claim that any Muslim accused is a scapegoat and victim". Well partly, that is true.

As someone who has grown under the constant reminder of tyranny of Indian state, I don't trust Indian law and enforcement, and I am more than ready to concede that political pressure in aftermath of every terrorist attack accentuates the natural tendency of the investigative agencies to come up with quick results.  This accompanied by religious divide and mistrust which lingers even at best of times beneath the layer of feel good secular clap traps makes me more than ready to agree to the allegations that some (many?) of the accused are victims of the haste and prejudice.

However where I depart from the Islamic apologist is to extend above observation (or to be more precise gut feeling) to conclude that there is no such thing as Islamic terrorism, or alternatively barring some misguided souls state of Islam in India (again religious tensions, to be more precise) has nothing to do with terrorism.
As I have said earlier there is a strong link between terrorism and Islamic history. That it is not taken up has to do with the fact that we have deceived ourselves to believe that past is dead. Yet, like a resurrected monster belonging to cliche of horror genre, it never is.

Here ends the incoherence.

Wrong parallel

I am a bit busy but just wanted to comment on this article. While I do agree with the basic thrust of the article, which is the religious character of the so called independence movement, the parallel between agitation by Hindus of  Jammu and by Muslim League is historically incorrect.

The reason Partition took place was not because Muslims feared for their lives and safety in united India, but, in short, because of democracy. Democracy meant electoral supremacy of Hindus, which meant that Hindus rather than Muslims would have an upper hand in power.

Such an arrangement was unacceptable to Muslim League, a coalition of Muslim intellectuals, gentry and clerics. Congress, in contrast, protested that such concerns were misplaced as there were no reasons to believe that Hindus would ever constitute a monolithic bloc. But to Muslim League even a distant possibility for such an eventuality was unimaginable.

Again, it was not for safety. To Muslim establishment, for any arrangement to be acceptable, a parity between Hindus and Muslims was must at minimum. The reason for this is not very hard to discern either, for them they were a superior people, not also by virtue of history of conquest over Hindus, but also because they were the followers of true faith, as opposed to the kaffirs. Congress couldn't agree to it, because this would have opened a Pandora's box. Result was Partition and resulting carnage.

In contrast, Hindus in J&K have considerable grievances. They, as the example of Kashmiri Pundits shows, have reason to worry for their safety. They also have, justified, resentment against Valley hegemony and discrimination by center for appeasing the separatists.

Therefore there is no justification to compare the two cases.

Updated:  There is of course this little bit of historical revisionism whereby RSS/Hindu MahaSabha/Veer Savarkar are elevated to co-villainy of  partition along with Muslim League, whereas the truth, and one which would have been clear enough if only our historical narrative were not a monopoly of secular fascists and if  Hindus were not so disgustingly Dhimmi, is that  a) they were marginal players and b) they didn't have same opinions reg. Partition although I have come to the same conclusion as Veer Savarkar now.

On terrorism

I started writing this as a short post intended to this post by GB, however since this post by FiTW and this article by Saubhik Chakravarti are also relevant to the issue at hand, so I broadened the scope.

It is almost unnecessary to state that terrorism is a complex issue involving various interdependent causes or factors having a feedback affect on each other. Now  I do concur that there are many factors involved which can be addressed and mitigated by considering as law and order problem. Specifically to bring results following at least are required  a. a federal agency with an unambiguous and centralized command and adequate resources, for intelligence, and investigation (as mentioned by GB) as well as clear and simple communication channel with various domestic and international agencies. b. Law(s) to facilitate intelligence, investigation, and prosecution without hindrance, this can be achieved by re-enacting POTA and other laws.

However the scope of these steps as far as terrorism is limited. To be precise, these steps are concerned with disrupting the supply chain of terrorism by dismantling the necessary infrastructure whether communication wise or logistics wise. What these can not address are the issues which go deeper than mere infrastructure, to be more specific, source of terrorism.

First take the more obvious. "Moral support" from "land of pure". So far this has been the major source for terrorism (although there is speculation that this might be changing). If counter-terrorism efforts have to have any meaning threat from Pakistan must be neutralized. As I have written many times earlier also, there are three approaches to accomplish that.

First, diplomacy. I hope I am not being too hasty in claiming that it has failed. Of course that it has failed should not stop secular liberal establishment from touting it time to time as a breakthrough or BJP from trying to imitate it looking for elusive acceptability from the establishment, but rest of us can move on. Second, in words of Don Vito Corleone,  is to reason with them, by delivering political equivalent of horse's head at Pakistan's feet. This may be difficult, but certainly doable, and importantly, the only way to achieve immediate results. In long term however, Pakistan will continue to weaken India by any way possible, and hence it is necessary that it be dismembered. But that is just my inner Hindutva Fascist speaking.

Now we come to the perplexing part, because while Pakistan is external threat, there is undeniable evidence that terrorism is being fomented from within the country as well. Muslims find themselves increasingly ghettoized, a problem largely of their own making, one which has been going since partition. A significant, and ever increasing, percentage of Indian Muslims are being indoctrinated in Madarassas resulting in increasing fundamentalism and radicalization. The community remains beholden to leaders who promise favors or mostly just a collective face against kaffirs, and to Ulemas deeply rooted in Islamic theology and a historical sense of  creedal superiority who ensure that Muslims remain chained in past, with only interaction in present as perpetual victims of either duplicity of kaffirs, or treachery of time. This is not helped by the secular liberal establishment for whom Muslim community is a convenient prop to burnish its credential as savior of oppressed.


No wonder then this radicalization along with resentment and grievance* over injustice works to inculcate sympathy for the terrorism among the community, with a few individuals actively turning to terrorism.

This is a cause for concern, and also the main reason why it should never be concerned as merely law and order, which basically means that it is a matter of random individual breaking laws for their personal and unrelated gains. However as FiTW points out this is hardly the case. The ultimate aim of terrorist is clear, even if cliched, to destroy this country.

This is also the reason that Saubhik Chakrabarti is way off the mark, surprisingly so, as he is very much the part of secular liberal establishment, any conversation on radicalization can not happen, indeed will not be allowed to happen as there is simply too much at stake, for Maulvis as well as establishment, to maintain the fiction of Muslim as lamb to be perpetually defended from big bad Hindutva wolf. In fact the very notion of Indian Secularism hinges upon the insistence at absolute equality between Hindus and Muslims irrespective of the time. Any contrary evidence is either ignored, embellished or dismissed as irrelevant.

* So am I saying there are no genuine grievances as opposed to manufactured ones. I think there are, but that subject will have to wait for another post.

You know, I understand that there are some Indian Muslims out there who want to restore the trust and credibility.
I am not sure being lying weasel and playing victim to distract from terrorism is really going to help though.

Now I don't know about you, but I am seriously pissed off. Seriously, stop playing games. Hindus are stupid, just not as stupid as some in secular liberals and Muslims think.
